How the ranks were chosen

S means the route matches the housing you are in and needs the fewest extra cards. D means the route does not leave the secure side of the building. Rankings are editorial, based on the recipes and destinations published for the current map.

S tier

escape-routesMaximum vent crawlMaximum Security does not get the yard rope loop. The hallway grate near solitary, or the cafeteria duct, is the documented way into the tunnel that exits by the State Police building.

Player decision Use this when you are housed in Maximum. Minimum players should only detour here if they already have a screwdriver and the yard fence is watched.

A tier

escape-routesYard fence ropeThe lowest tool cost for Minimum and Medium. Two shirts and three pants become one rope. Mount it on the broken barbed wire by the light post on the right side of the yard.

Player decision Default solo route for Minimum and Medium when the yard is not full of officers.

escape-routesCafeteria storage fenceSkip the soccer-field patrol by opening the cafeteria rear with an Employee Keycard, then rope the fence behind storage.

Player decision Take this when you already found a card and the right-side yard fence has a guard on it.

B tier

escape-routesCheckpoint gate runAn Employee Keycard opens the upstairs Minimum checkpoint. The Corrections card on that desk opens the outer gates, so you walk out with no rope.

Player decision Only when the office is empty. If someone is at the desk, go back to the yard rope.

D tier

escape-routesBooking ventThe booking-cell vent is a five-second screwdriver exit into the front corridor. It is not an outside route.

Player decision Use it only to get out of the booking cell. You still need a rope, a corrections card, or a real tunnel vent afterward.

Valley Prison [V3] ranking questions

Why are guns not ranked?

No. Launch reviews said many legacy guns left the lockers, and the pages that still print damage disagree with that cut. Routes are ranked because their recipes were restated after V3.
